Sonnet Technologies has announced the release of the Echo III Desktop and Echo III Rackmount chassis. The first model is desktop, the second is designed for rack mounting and is made in the 2U form factor. Each chassis allows you to connect up to three PCIe expansion cards to the host using a 40 Gbit/s Thunderbolt 3 interface. Innovations compared to previous models are the mode switch, which allows you to use multiple Avid Pro Tools|HDX cards, and the new, quieter Noctua NF-R8 redux-1800 fans.

The echo III Desktop and Echo III Rackmount chassis use the same internal Echo III module. It has one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and two PCIe 3.0 x8 slots. It is possible to install full-height maps with a maximum length of 312 mm. A 400W power supply is installed inside the chassis, which has a 75W additional power connector for expansion cards that require additional power (the manufacturer specifies that this is not a video card). The Echo III module configuration includes two Thunderbolt 3 ports, which allows it to be included in a chain of several (up to six) compatible devices, including monitors. Thunderbolt cable 3 length of 0.7 m is included in the kit.
