Nvidia itself provoked a shortage of GeForce RTX 3080
There are many rumors surrounding the shortage Of NVIDIA Ampere video cards. It is believed that the shortage was caused by increased demand and, at the same time, limited production volumes. In the second case, they pointed out possible problems with Samsung, which produces GPUs, and the lack of GDDR6X memory. But now the Network has announced a new reason for the deficit, an unusual one.

It sounds like a conspiracy theory, but according to a source with reference to Royal Capital analyst Mitch Steves, Nvidia itself provoked the deficit by removing Ampere video cards worth $ 175 million from the market. Those were allegedly sold directly to cryptocurrency miners. This step allowed Nvidia to declare in the financial report for the third quarter an increase in revenue from sales of gaming solutions by 37% compared to the same quarter last year.

As noted, Etherium 2.0 is released in December, and cryptocurrency miners really need powerful video cards, which, of course, include Ampere. For sure, in this context, you need to take into account the Bitcoin exchange rate that has grown significantly since the spring of this year, which has pulled many other cryptocurrencies with it.

If we take into account the average cost of the Ampere video card and divide it by 175 million US dollars, it turns out that Nvidia has removed about 190,000 video cards from the user market. Given that stores sell dozens and hundreds of them instead of the required deficit-free amount of thousands and tens of thousands, such a move could easily provoke the current shortage. However, it is hard to believe that the company did not realize such a step and did not assume that it could greatly damage the company's reputation in the eyes of ordinary users.
