Tesla showed the work of a giant press on the molding of the rear part of the body
|One of the strategies of Tesla to reduce the cost of electric vehicles to $25 thousand is the transition to stamping the car body almost from a single piece of metal. Now the company is mastering the stamping of the rear and lower rear parts of the body in the form of a single blank. Instead of 70 parts, one part is obtained, which eliminates 300 work operations on the assembly at once. But this required the creation of the largest press in the industry — the subject of special pride of Tesla. |
By order of Tesla, Giga Press is manufactured by the Italian company Idra Group. The unit develops a force from 55,000 to 61,000 kN. The first such press was installed and launched at the Tesla plant last year in Fremont. Last September, another Giga Press was delivered to the same plant, and a third was recently delivered to the company's plant in Texas. The Shanghai factory of Tesla also received a giant press and recently it began to produce products, and the company confirmed its work in a fresh video.
At the Shanghai factory, Giga Press stamps the rear and lower body parts of the Model Y electric car. The installation is doing so well that Tesla has ordered several more presses from the Italians.
