The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT BIOS has a very high GPU frequency limit
Following the release of the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card, AMD is expected to introduce the RX 6700 series based on the Navi 22 chip to respond to the release of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 and 3060 Ti. As we have already reported, the mention of AMD Radeon RX 6700 and RX 6700 XT is already detected in the Linux drivers.

According to preliminary data, the RX 6700 series cards will have the same number of computing blocks as the previous-generation RX 5700 series. The memory capacity is increased by 50% to 12 GB, and the memory bus width is reduced by 25% to 192 bits. Increased performance will be achieved by increasing frequencies.

Analysis of the BIOS images of Radeon RX 6700 series video cards using the MorePowerTool program showed that the GPU clock frequency limit is set to 2854 MHz, and the increased frequency limit is set to 2950 MHz. Please note that the upper limits are not the frequencies recommended by the manufacturer. For comparison, the RX 6800 XT has a maximum overclocking frequency of 2250 MHz, while its limit set in the BIOS is 2800 MHz. One of the BIOS images has a power limit of 220 W, while the other has a power limit of 186 W. Interestingly, the cards have the same memory clock speed limit as the RX 6800 XT — 1075 MHz. This means that GDDR6 memory will run at 16 Gbit / s. Taking into account the above memory bus width, the bandwidth will be 384 GB/s.
