Xiaomi has overtaken Apple to become the third smartphone supplier in the world
|Gartner released today the results of a study of the global smartphone market for the third quarter of the outgoing year. Against the backdrop of the pandemic and economic uncertainties, the industry again showed a decline. |
During the three-month period, 366.7 million smart cell phones were delivered to the world market. This is 5.7 % less than last year's result, when shipments were 388.8 million units.
The largest player was Samsung with a 22.0% share. Over the year, demand for the South Korean giant's devices rose by about 2.2 %.
Huawei is in second place with 14.1 %. Under the yoke of us sanctions, the Chinese company's smartphone sales plummeted-minus 21.3 % compared to the third quarter of last year.
The third place was taken by Xiaomi, which managed to push Apple to the fourth line. The shares of these suppliers were 12.1% and 11.1%, respectively. Moreover, shipments of Xiaomi devices jumped by 34.9% year — on-year, while Apple declined by 0.6 %.
OPPO closes the top five with 8.2% of the market: shipments of devices from THIS company decreased by 2.3 %. All other suppliers accounted for 32.5 % of the global market.
